Scan and Save Options
The Enhanced option also includes a free web browser based photo album (available as an extra with the Basic or Basic+ options).
For APS we recommend a minimum scan density of 2700 due to the smaller size of the negatives. We can also scan 110 format, however these need to be scanned at 4000 dpi to produce a usable image.
Print Scanning
Our HP flat bed scanners allow us to scan your prints at 300 dpi. We offer the same three levels of service, however as the flatbed scanner does not have the capability of digital ICE, we will remove the worst of any dust marks manually in Photoshop. We cannot undertake this for badly marked prints within our standard pricing, so if you aren't sure please call us for a quote.
Please contact us if you have any special requirements that are not covered by these options.
DVD Slide Show
We can also produce for you a DVD Slide Show to play on your television through your DVD player.
Using our state-of-the-art Nikon film scanners and leading edge software we are able to scan your 35mm or medium format negatives and slides or APS cassettes to CD-R or DVD-R at resolutions up to 4,000 dpi (dots per inch). We offer three service levels:
1. Our Basic scanning service produces scans without dust / scratch removal or colour restoration. Scans are cropped to remove black edges and rotated to the correct orientation.
2. The BasicPlus service provides dust, scratch and speckle removal to all scans where the film type allows this. We cannot offer dust / scratch removal on black & white film as Digital ICE does not work on these, and removing the typically many marks on monochrome film is very time-consuming. Removing fingerprints or the effects of fungus growth (common on older slides) can be very time-consuming, we will try to remove the worst of these marks on colour negatives or slides within our standard pricing.
3. With the Enhanced service we will also try to restore the colours digitally as far as is possible. As this service includes Digital ICE processing, we cannot offer it for black & white film.
Excellent results are possible, however please note that the results from our enhanced service can be very subjective and very variable. Your recollection of the original may be different from what we are able to produce without your first-hand knowledge, and deterioration over time may prevent full restoration. However our scanner software does use IT8 profiles for some popular slide films to try to restore faded colours more accurately.
