Skies can be particularly difficult. Under-exposed images, particularly in some slide types, are very prone to showing up the film grain, and this is evident more in a dark blue sky than elsewhere. Any dust and scratches will show more in the sky, as there is usually nothing to break up what the eye sees. Grass and trees, for example, may have dust marks but these can be difficult to spot due to the random nature of the image colours. Sometimes it is possible to minimise these effects in a reasonable timeframe, and we will always do our best to improve the image where you request the BasicPlus or Enhanced Services. Sometimes, because the sky is rendered as a continuously variable shade of blue, it is impossible to completely mask all blemishes, especially those caused by the growth of "slide fungus" or inside glass slides (we can quote for stripping down and cleaning glass slides).
